Report of the 17th Session of the Commission
REPORT OF THE XYTI SESSION OF THE COMMISSION {*)
(27 September 2004, New York)
1. The XVII, Session of the Commission was held in New York on 27 September 20M. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mir Afsal from the Iranian Mission to the UN, due to the absence of Ambassador Adeli for the reasons of force majeur.
2. Following the adoption of the agenda, the Executive Director made a brief presentation to update his report earlier circulated.
3. The Commissioner of Malaysia presented the Report of the Meeting of Takaful and Insurance Regulatory and Supervisory Authorities which was held in Kuala Lumpur on 13 July 2004. Referring to various rccomendations of the meeting, he reminded of the decision to convene this meeting annually on a rotation basis. Accordingly, the Executive Director will make inquiries with the member countries to find out a volunteer who would be willing to organize the next meeting. The Malaysian Commissioner added that together with Egypt, they would take the necessary steps to set up the two working groups, one on education and training to be headed by Malaysia, and the other on financial infrastructure development by Egypt.
4. Concerning the precise dates of the remaining events which will be organized during the current year, the Commissioner of Pakistan informed that his authorities were considering to convene the Seminar on WTO issues in December 2004 and the Workshop on Data Collection, Classification Systems and Management of SMEs in January 200S. The Executive Director will be in touch with him for finalizing the precise dates of These meetings.
As for the dates of the other three events namely, Meeting on the Establishment of a Shipping Business Forum (by Bangladesh), the Second Meeting of Officials or Central Banks and Ministries of Finance and Meeting of Senior Officials on New Industrial Projects (both by the I.R. of Iran), the Executive Director will endevour to find out from the countries
