Secretary General: Dr. Dipo Alam, Indonesia

D-8 Secretary General

Having graduate degrees from Chemistry Department of University of Indonesia, and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the George Washington University, USA, in the field of engineering management, industrial policy and international business, Dr. Alam had several positions at the Government of Indonesia, such as in Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) as a senior researcher, and also, at the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) as Bureau Chiefs of Industry, Trade, Mining, Technology, Marine, Aeronautics and Environment. His last position before retired was Deputy Minister of Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs for eight years. In this position he had experiences led international meetings, multilaterally and bilaterally, in several Indonesian join commissions with various countries, also meetings with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, IMF, and other UN organizations.

Having completed his under-graduate and graduate studies in Systems & Control Engineering and Material Management in the USA, he joined Foreign Service in 1981, and ever since then has held high ranking positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs such as : Director General for International Political Affairs, Director General for Multi-lateral Economic Cooperations, as well as Chief Negotiator for Trade Agreement with the European Union (EU). Abroad, he has served as Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to USSR (Moscow), U.N. (Geneva) and Switzerland (Bern).

Economist: Z. Esen Gönen, Turkey

D-8 Economist

Holds LL.B. degree from Ankara University School of Law and LL.M. degree in International Trade Law from University of California at Berkeley, Boalt School of Law. She began her career at the Undersecretariat of Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade as a Foreign Trade Expert and then continued at the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEİK) as a Research and Business Development Group Coordinator. During her carrer, she was specifically in charge of Turkey-EU Customs Union, Turkey-ESCS Free Trade Agreement and Free Trade Agreements of Turkey with the Mediterranean Countries.
