Secretary General: Prof. Widi Agoes Pratikto, Indonesia
Hold under-graduate degree from Engineering Department of Surabaya Institute of Technology (Indonesia), master degree on Ocean Engineering from The George Washington University and PhD program from North Carolina State University in the field of coastal and ocean engineering, Prof. Widi Agoes Pratikto had several experiences on governmental institutions, international cooperation as well as academics fields. His last position before assignment as D-8 Secretary General was Secretary General of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Chairperson of APFIC (Asia - Pacific Fishery Commission) FAO which had international meeting experiences, such as with ASEAN, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, etc. In addition to that, he was also active on research and had several publications, papers and books, especially on Marine and Fisheries sector.
Director (I) for Administrative, Legal and Internal Issues: Ambassador Bagher Asadi, Iran
Born in 1951, with M.A. in Economics, University of Colorado (US), is an Iranian career diplomat with 29 years of service. He has served in a number of positions at the Foreign Ministry, including Advisor to Minister in two different periods, and has been posted abroad as the Charge d’affaires at the Geneva Mission (1988-90) and as the ECOSOC Ambassador at the New York Mission (1996- 2002). While posted in New York, he held a number of intergovernmental positions and led a number of intergovernmental negotiating processes. He was the Chairman of the Group of 77 in 2001 and received the Elizabeth Haub Award for Environmental Diplomacy for the Year 2001. He also served on the UN Secretary-General’s Panel of Eminent Persons on the United Nations-Civil Society Relations (2003-04). Since 2002 he has served as the Special Invitee of the Board of the South Centre - a developing countries think tank based in Geneva. Most recently, he served as Chairman of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for the years 2007-8. Before joining the D-8 Secretariat, he served as Senior Expert at the International Department and also served as the editor of the Iranian Review of Foreign Affairs (IRFA) between December 2009 and March 2011
Director (II) for Economy, Implementation and External Relations: Ömer Asım Aksoy, Turkey
Holds B.A. degree in international relations from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences and M.A. degree in international relations from University of Kent, London Center of International Relations. He began his career at the Undersecretariat of Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade and became Foreign Trade Expert in 2000. He was assigned as Commercial Counsellor in Italy and Phillippines between 2006-2009. During his career in Undersecretariat for Foreign Trade, he was mainly responsible for coordination and formulation of policies and strategies to be followed by Turkey in international economic and trade-related organizations including D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) and Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).
