Pakistan Independence Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm and Renewed Pledge

The 61st Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated here as elsewhere in the country with great enthusiasm and fervour and with renewed pledge by people to work for stronger democracy in Pakistan and for a progresive and prosperous Pakistan. The day dawned with a 21 gun salute in the Provincial metropolis followed by Quran Khawani at the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

An impressive ceremony of the day was the change of guards at the Quaid’s Mazar Another significant ceremony of the day was flag hoisting at the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam. Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad along with Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah hoisted the national flag .

Later, the Governor accompanied by Chief Minister and his cabinet Ministers visited the Quaid’s Mazar and offered fateha.

He also recorded his impressions in the visitor’s book placed inside the mausoleuum.

He then went to the groups of children who had presented national songs during the flag hoisting ceremony and shared with them views related to national independence day of the country.

The flag hoisting ceremony in the premises of Mazar e Quaid was also attended by Deputy speaker Sindh assembly, Shehla Raza, Naib Nazima of Karachi City District Government, Nasreen Jalil, senior civil and military officials.

On the occasion, the Governor felicitated the nation celebrating the day. Talking to the guests, he said all Pakistanis must pledge to strictly follow the golden principle of unity, faith and discipline as laid by the Father of Nation, Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

He said that for the sake of national progress and prosperity all the countrymen need to forge unity in their ranks and forget their differences.

He said the day calls for unity among our ranks and revival of the spirit which was witnessed during the struggle for an independent state.

Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal while representing the people of Karachi laid a florall wreath and offered fateha at the tomb of Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

The day was a public holiday and newspapers published special editions featuring significance of the day while PTV and other channels and Radio Pakistan telecast and broadcast special programs highlighting signifance of the day.

The gates of the Quaid’s mausoleum, soon after the flag hoisting ceremony, were flung open allowing a sea of people to enter and pay homage to the great Quaid who earned the Muslims of South Asia an independent state where they could order their lives in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

All educational institutions, although closed as public holiday, their managements held independence day functions with flag hoisting ceremonies and students taking part in national song competitions.

A number of organizations had organised seminars and conferences on the significance of the day.

Makeshift stalls and shops that dot the metropolis for last more than a week continued to attarct the citizens in large numbers as they procured bands, flags, badges made in traditional Green and White, the national colours of the country and engraved or printed with the creacent star emblem.

D-8 Secretariat extends its highest congratulations for Pakistan on this special occasion, and believes that the country will flourish as its cooperation within the framework of D-8 Organization developed to higher ground with the supports of all member states.
