Istanbul, Turkey | October 29, 2008 by
During the 10th celebration of the anniversary of D-8 organisation, D-8 Secretary General Dr. Dipo Alam, talks about the organisation’s objectives to the World Bulletin.
The Secretary General of D-8 asserts the organisation’s plan 10 years ahead, setting aside criticism for the past 10 years period since establishment.
Due to the restricted time, we did not have the chance to talk at length with Dr. Dipo Alam, but if there is something that impressed us is his successful and decisiveness about the organisation objectives toward 10 years ahead. “It’s very essential for us to have the confidence that the cooperation among developing countries in the South-South Cooperation, OIC, and D-8 can be effectively implemented, as long as we are willing to focus on our commitment and make breakthrough, consistently and sistematically,” says Dr. Alam.
H.E Secretary General, first of all we thank you for allowing us your precious time for this interview. What are your plans to boost up effective cooperation among D-8 member countries?
- Initially all the agreements signed in the foreign council summit will be thoroughly analysed. And then all the required working action within the program’s framework shall be started, as well as impelementing all the working commitment and formulates them into comprehensive working program. I aim to effectively concile and plays a significant role on all the commonly agreed subjects for the next 10 years. We work hard to increase the trade volume among member state to up to 100-150 billion dollars, and for this purpose we had formulated an agreement about easing custom and visa. This we believe will boost up the trade volume up to 15-20 percent.
How do you see the Western world and their imposition, with regards to your 10-years-ahead plan of the organisation? Do you think D-8 can reach its targets?
-Yes, I don’t think that there can be anybody or organisation that can block our way once we have a good cooperation and effective leadership that guide us to our goals. On top of that, we have a rich natural resource and an impressive economic perfomance.
How do you plan to set up media networks for D-8 countries, especially with Turkish media? This is especially one among other things that were underlined by H.E Erbakan. For example, now we publish our news in internet in 4 languages, and we plan to increase this up to 11 languages in near future. How would you like to see it?
- First of all, we build our website. We shall strengthen and actively open our network as a information sharing ports to the world; especially we will be in close contact with the 20 newspapers/media in D-8 member countries. We put a significant importance to media and public relations. In the third quarter of this year, we plan to work on a more effective program for this issue. We sincerely thank you for bringing this topic into discussion.
H.E Secretary General, thank you for this interview.
- I thank you. I hope, by God’s willing, that in very near future we shall keep in dialogue and work together very closely with your media.
