4th D-8 Energy Work Group Meeting to be Held in Cairo, 1-2 June, 2008

Further to the meeting that took place in March 2007 between H.E Sameh Fahmy-Minister of Petroleum of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and H.E Dipo Alam General Secretary of the (D8), it was decided that the Ministry of Petroleum will host the Fourth (D8) Energy Work Group meeting in Cairo in the period from 1-2 of June, 2008.
The objective of the meeting is to engage the energy experts in the D8 member countries into a thought provoking discussions on the current Energy challenges facing these countries, and to exchange experience on the energy policies adopted in the member countries.
The meeting has the following objectives:
- Promoting cross investments between member countries in the field of oil, gas, petrochemicals and mineral resources.
- Exploring innovative mechanisms for financing such projects.
- Discussing the establishment of an expert forum that can meet regularly to develop execution plans for implementation of selected projects.
- Discussing the role of international financing organizations to support the projects of common interest.
