D-8 Finalise Rules of Origin of PTA

The 9th session of the High-Level Trade Officials (HLTO) of developing eight (D-8) countries concluded last week (Mar 28), in Islamabad with finalizing the rules of origin of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) signed at the 5th Summit in Bali in May 2006, as reported by media sources in Pakistan.
The Secretary General of the organization Dipo Alam attended the meeting together with representatives of the member states.
Secretary General Dipo Alam, also called on the Foreign Secretary Riaz Muhammad Khan, and briefed the Foreign Secretary on D-8’s achievements in fostering closer cooperation in the fields of trade, agriculture, energy, finance and shipping among the member countries.
The Foreign Secretary expressed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting intra D-8 trade. He appreciated the role being played by Secretary General in making the D-8 a successful organization.
The next event of the organization will be the holding of 6th D-8 Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 7-8 July 2008.
