D-8 and ICDT in Casablanca to Cooperate to Publish D-8 Trade Statistic and Trade Information

ICDTAs discussed by the Secretary General of D-8 and the Secretary General of OIC last June 2007, in Jeddah Saudi Arabia that both D-8 and OIC, including its organs, would have join cooperation in every occasion whenever the possibility is available, as well as avoiding some “re-inventing the wheel” of works. One of the ideas is to have a join publication for member states by OIC and D-8, since the member states of D-8 are also the member states of OIC.

In February 4th, 2008, in Casablanca, Morocco, the Secretary General of D-8, Dr Dipo Alam, visited the Islamic Center for Development of Trade (ICDT) and discussed some potential cooperation with Dr Allal Rachdi, the Director General of ICDT.

The meeting concluded that between D-8 and ICDT will cooperate in some cooperation projects, one of them is to publish Booklets of D-8 Countries Trade Statistic and Trade Information, to be circulated in the D-8 Sixth Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 7-8, 2008. ICDT recently has published a trade statistics and trade information of OIC member states, including D-8 member states. In other to avoid “reinventing the wheel” of preparing trade statistic and trade information for D-8, ICDT assists D-8 by editing, focusing and updating, improving the statistics and the information, and publishing the booklet.

The booklets on D-8 Statistic and Trade Information is designed to serve the purposes of the followings:

  • D-8 and ICDT initiate a cooperation project that can be implemented soon and meaningful for the interest of the two organizations;
  • D-8 will have a latest trade statistics and trade information that in the next future will be updated together between the member-states of D-8, D-8 Secretariat and ICDT; and
  • D-8 and ICDT will provide trade data and information for the users such as government officials, traders/trade asociations, industrialist, researchers, students, companies, NGOs, banks, etc.
