D-8 Learns Some Potency to Cooperate with the FAO Investment Center

fao4On January 24th, 2008, at the Headquarters of FAO, Rome, Italy, D-8 Secretary General visited the FAO Investment Center and discussed several issues in agricultural development with the Director Mr. Charles H. Riemenschneider and Mr. William Sorrenson, FAO/World Bank Cooperative Program-Asia Pacific Service.

The FAO Investment Center offers developing countries a unique service across a wide range of activities relating to investment in agriculture and rural development. Acting as honest broker, the Investment Center helps governments to identify and prepare projects and programs that can be funded by international financing institutions and bilateral donors, with co-financing from local resources. These projects are designed in partnership with stakeholders and beneficiaries, and take into consideration their potential environmental and social impact. The Center also assists the implementation, supervision and evaluation of investment activities.

D-8 Secretary General interested to cooperate with the FAO Investment Center since some international financial institutions also willing to support some D-8 projects in agro-industry that related to rural development and poverty reduction. This will be propose by D-8 Secretariat to D-8 Commissioners in the March Commissioners Meeting on D-8 Roadmap 2008-2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
