Turkish Airlines (THY) maintenance company THY Technic is going to establish an international aero engines maintenance center, announced a THY statement sent to the İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) yesterday.
THY Technic signed a joint venture agreement with Pratt & Whiney — the company responsible for aircraft engine design, manufacture and service for United Technologies Corporation — to build an international maintenance center in İstanbul, the statement said. THY Technic currently operates out of two hangars at Atatürk International Airport in İstanbul, in an enclosed area totaling 130,000 square meters with a total workforce of 3,000 employees. Approximately 1,800 of these employees are technicians. THY Technic is a member of the International Airlines Technical Pool (IATP) and European Line Maintenance Organization (ELMO ) and has line maintenance stations in 24 Turkish domestic and 30 international airports.
D-8 Civil Aviation Working Group is currently led by Turkey, and so far has organized two meetings, in Antalya (Turkey) and Isfahan (Iran - click here to read the news). Secretary General, Dipo Alam, cherished this news by saying that technical and maintanance is one among important programs in D-8 Civil Aviation. “We will bring up this encouraging news and discuss it in our 3rd Civil Aviation Meeting Group meeting in Istanbul, and also in the 4th in Jakarta,” he said in his office yesterday. He added that the organization is very much pleased by positive efforts from all aviation communities in D-8 countries to support and improve service, production, and business opportunities among memberstates.
