CPO Industries will be certified: Concrete measure for sustainable CPO industry

Jakarta, Indonesia | November 08, 2007 by D-8 Secretariat

Crude Palm Oil producers will be certified. The certification process is expected to be introduced from year 2008, said Indonesian Agriculture Minister, Anton Apriantono in a palm oil conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, on Wednesday (7/11/2007), as reported by Indonesian news portal detikfinance.

The certification is a concrete measure to tackle negative campaign by some European-based NGO that alleging Indonesian CPO producers to harm tropical forests, said Apriantono. “With this certificate, we can assure the world market to become confident in welcoming Indonesian palm oil,” he said further.

The Indonesian government is dedicated in developing sustainable CPO industry for the benefit of the people without harming environment. The government has been committed to develop this aim through various programs, such as Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The criteria for RSPO has been agreed in the 5th roundtable meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
