Secretary General Attended the 1st MECCAward Meeting in Tehran: Supporting D-8 Private Sectors Cooperation

Mecaward PhotoSecretary General Dipo Alam, invited by Dr. Mohammad Nahavandian, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines, and President of MECCAward, attended the 1st MECCAward Meeting in Teheran, from August 11-12, 2007. Secretary General joined at the meeting with other 100 top-ranked Muslim companies, representatives of Chambers of Commerces, ambassadors of Islamic Countries, presidents of national/international quality awards and representatives of OIC, ICCI and ADB.

Invitation by MECCAward was one of activities and continuation of a meeting between D-8 delegates in International Chambers of Commerces who attended World Chamber of Commerce Conference in Istanbul, July 3-5, 2007 and D-8 Secretary General, and Director Ambassador Tabatabee.

In the occasion of MECCAward, Secretary General had opportunities met and discussed with several companies, industrial and trade associations, as well as chambers of commerces of D-8 and Muslim companies of OIC, on the issues how to increase cooperation on trade, industry, investment, tourism, and finance.

The Secretary General gave brief information of "D-8 on the Move, News on Economic Cooperation and Progress of Developing Eight Countries" to participants of MECCAward, to show that there are in fact potential economic cooperation within D-8 countries that need to be progressed together, since economic growth were substantially good in the countries.

When discussed with Dr Nahavandian at his Chamber of Commerce office in Teheran, Secretary General supported activities of Meccaward, because such effort of giving assessment for award on quality and competitiveness will lead companies to have good track record and recognized by investors, customers and partners, as well as by employees and communities.

Besides MECCAward, some cooperation program also discussed, especially on effort of cooperation, how private sectors could involved more in D-8 cooperation program and activities.
