Secretariat Initiates A Meeting of Immigration and Customs on Security Issues

Istanbul, Turkey | July 14, 2007 by D-8 Secretariat

As a following up action for the initiative taken by the Secretariat to promote a public-private partnership forum through a number of exhibition and fair in Istanbul in October 18-21, 2007, an effort to coordinate a meeting on Immigration and Customs in Security Issues has been  planned to seek support and harness the ratification and the implementation of D-8 Easing Visa Agreement and D-8 Customs Agreement.

Istanbul is hosting at least 3 exhibition programs in October 2007 that are expected to be participated by a number of D-8 member states companies and related authorities. Among these exhibitions are focusing within the framework of issues such as security and immigration, security for civil aviation, airport, port and rail surveillance, protecting intellectual property, natural and technological risks, and presentation of scientific techniques and equipment to meet the security needs of people and industry.

The framework for this program gains a significant importance with the signing of two agreements in Bali Summit (2006), regarding the implementation of increasing intra-trade and tourism among D-8 countries. "This sort of program is what I call reform, or breakthrough, so that we can have a more down-to-earth accomplishment and more applicable to support cooperation among D-8 states," said Secretary General, Dr. Dipo Alam.
