Secretary General Meets D-8’s Chambers of Commerce in Istanbul

Fifth World Chambers Congress (WCC) will take place between July 4 and 6 at Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center in Istanbul. The World Chambers Federation (WCF), a branch of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), organizes the Congress biennially. 1,413 participants from 110 member organizations of the ICC have registered for the congress. Approximately 1,600 people are expected to attend the congress.
The congress is an opportunity for businesspeople from all around the world to meet their counterparts. During the conference themes such as global risk management, securing the energy sector, problems of transportation and logistics sector and partnership or public and private sector for developing economies are expected to be discussed. The motto of the congress is 'Partnerships for Prosperity.'
Rona Yırcalı, the Chairman of the WCF, said many distinguished names from abroad and Turkey will attend the events. Among them are Madeline Albright, professor of diplomacy at U.S. Georgetown University; State Minister Kürşat Tüzmen; Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus; Rahmi Koç, Koç Holding CEO and Marcus Wallenberg, President of the ICC. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will join the opening ceremony of the congress.
The Secretary General of D-8 is planning to schedule a number of meetings with Chambers of Commerce from the D-8 member state countries in this Congress, and will discuss opportunities and challenges to expand public-private projects and cooperation in the D-8 activities, mainly in preparation of the Preferential Trade Agreement, the expansion of intra-trade, industry colaboration, investments, energy, banking, tourism, and civil aviation to encourage a more active role of private sectors in economic partnerships and trade among D-8 member states.
