D-8 commemorates the 10th Anniversary in 2007

Today, June 15, 2007, is the 10th Anniversary of the Developing Eight Countries for Economic Cooperation (D-8). The eight countries are: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, when on June 15, 1997, their heads of state/Government in Istanbul, Turkey, agreed to establish an organization for economic cooperation based on 6 principles: (i) peace instead of conflict; (ii) dialogue instead of confrontation; (iii) cooperation instead of exploitation; (iii) justice instead of double-standard; (iv) equality instead of discrimination; and (vi) democracy instead of oppression. All D-8 member states have population more than 70 million people, except Malaysia, and the total in 2006 was almost 900 million, represent 14 percent of world population.
