Egypt signs training agreement with UNCTAD

Egypt signed Saturday with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) a memorandum of understanding to support Egypt in the workforce training domain According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, UNCTAD Secretary General Supachai Panitchpakdi told reporters after meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit that he would inaugurate a training course organized by the UNCTAD at the Cairo-based Institute for Diplomatic Studies. The course would tackle the main issues at the international economic agenda, he added.
Panitchpakdi pointed out that the course would focus on trade and investment ties and development in light of the multilateral negotiations of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Panitchpakdi lauded Egyptian cooperation underscoring Egypt’s active role since the establishment of UNCTAD.
Abul-Gheit, on his side, stressed the significance of UNCTAD’s intellectual contributions within the ongoing discussion on UN global role.
Abul-Gheit affirmed the importance of Egypt’s technical cooperation with UNCTAD in several domains such as communications, information technology, competitiveness protection and marketing for direct foreign investments.
Established in 1964, UNCTAD aims to help shape current policy debates and thinking on development, with a particular focus on ensuring that domestic policies and international action are mutually supportive in bringing about sustainable development.
